"What's with all those games?!"
That's
how the conversation started with a customer that hasn't been in for a
while. I chuckled and answered the question that comes up every now and
then. I am a real sucker for about anything 80's. You know the era that
was comfortable for you? well, 80's music, 80's redemption games- make
me comfortable. So we don't assault you with the 80's musical
sensations on our XM radio (unless you arrive early), but I have
introduced a few fun relics from the old days, alongside our current
games in the lobby.
I explained to that customer how much fun
the basketball game was- and after a 25 cent game (him vs me) he was
hooked! Whacking alligators, or agreeing to a simple 'love test' to see
if you're BLAH or UNCONTROLLABLE are also fun, cheap diversions while
waiting for a movie to start. It's also a way for us to personalize the
theater. Of course we hope the quarters will pay for the games someday,
but it looks like we may have to spread that amortization out....
Next
time you come in, bring one quarter and try out that basketball
Block-A-Shot. It's a riot! Built in 1976, it's a true electromechanical
wonder- as you try and shoot on the other players basket when the ball
drops out for tip off. It's a reflex and coordination game. The scoring
mechanism evens dings a bell when you score- and kids from 5-90 are
enjoying it all the same.
So, the games are mostly just for fun; we hope you enjoy them.
