Making a schedule and checking it twice...
Working on the schedule this week, it went very quickly. Many weeks, it takes hours to get it together, considering staffing, school activities, town events....
Mondays, I chat with our film booker, and discuss what the plan is for the upcoming week. Sometimes, we'll book films further out- like Michael Jackson or Food Inc, but most weeks- it's 'Monday-for-Friday'. That allows us to consider ticket grosses for the past weekend and try to forecast what a film will do for another week, before cutting it loose. Julie & Julia makes a case for this working in our favor. We originally booked it for one week- as you know- it ran FIVE weeks! People just kept coming, so we kept it onscreen.
You'll see a shift between our style between summer and winter- which depends on the potential customers 'out there'... In the summer, we could play the same films for 10 weeks, because the crowd changes every week. This week, and through the winter, we'll change the films frequently because the crowd is staying the same, and appreciates variety... So this is your fair warning that we're into the winter film season, and the lineup will change regularly. Stay in touch by at least skimming this newsletter so you don't miss a film that you'll regret not seeing. That is the primary reason we started this newsletter- to answer concerns that customers didn't know what was coming and going- or what those films were about.
Now, trailers accompany every film listing on our website, so you can see and hear what's available. We've considered additional technology to keep our customers in the loop- Twitter, facebook, etc- but wonder if they would be useful, or just become data overload. Let us know what you would find helpful- or if there's something cool we haven't tried.
